The number of unwanted dogs and cats surrendered to adoption centers each year is in the millions. While animal shelters and adoption facilities work hard to place all healthy, adoptable pets into new homes, euthanasia of these animals still happens, although less and less each year.
There are many solutions to help reduce the number of unwanted pets — obedience and behavior training for pets and their people to foster the bond, more housing options for pet owners that rent, and spaying/neutering your pet.
The SPCA of Northern Nevada strongly encourages spaying or neutering of pets to help with the overpopulation crisis. Spaying/neutering will not only prevent unwanted pregnancies, it will also make your pet healthier and live longer.
